The boundless ocean was the cradle of life, which was glorified and respected by all. According to the records of heretics, Dagon created the ocean with the the Elder Gods. They instructed the ancient creatures in R’lyeh to construct the broad sea.
Wizards worshipping the ocean studied records about the primeval ocean. After discovering a record about R’lyeh from a stele of ancient humans, they secretly amended the magic circle invented by the Great Mage to summon incarnations of Dagon. Affected by its power, its believers became half-human-half-fish hybrid.
Since then, they could never live away from the sea. They could only live on the fish and other sea creatures near the coastline. In the chaotic world, this kind of life was favored by heretics who wanted to live in seclusion. They wandered in the ocean, isolating themselves from what was happening outside on the land...
The Deep Ones: My Lord. Please take, our offerings.
The Deep Ones: We have, brought you, all elements, from the surrounding, waters.
Dagon had been listening to its servants... the deep ones offered water elements in exchange for the power to stay away from disasters and live peacefully on their own. However, their peaceful lives still attracted the attention of other clans in the sea. The deep ones were soon expelled by natives and assailed by the God of the sea. In order to protect its servants, Dagon aided its servant with its incarnation to drive away the God for them...
Bolla: Leave this ocean!
Poseidon, God of the Sea: From now on, I shall rule the ocean!
Poseidon, God of the Sea: Go back to the ruined city deep in the sea, obsolete scum!
The Deep Ones: Great Dagon! You have, saved us, in expense of, your own power.
The Deep Ones: Your grace, shocks, and amazes, us!
The deep ones finally found the ruins of R’lyeh in the depths of the ocean. Every Spring, they would return to the same area and worship Dagon. The gigantic dragon rested under the ruins, savoring the elements offered by the deep ones in tribute. However, these semi-fish creature could not completely hide themselves from the others. including those with malicious intents —
Novalis the Dragon Follower: So, is that all you got?
Marsh, Servitor of the Dagon: W,why—
The Dragon Follower stood on a boulder as he swung his halberd down at the werefish in the water. The strength of Dragon Power had almost pulverised the deep one. Other werefishes charged at the Dragon Follower in anger, but were soon blocked by the dark elements floating in the air.
Novalis the Dragon Follower: Weak scum! You would just become the burden of Ursula!
When the Dragon Follower raised his halberd for another strike, an incarnation of Dagon jumped out from the sea to stop him from killing its people—
Novalis the Dragon Follower: You finally show up! The Gigantic Dragon from another world!
Novalis the Dragon Follower: Come! Show me your power!
The power of the Dragon Follower had a limit. Dagon’s incarnation fought against the follower until his power was exhausted. Supporting himself with his long halberd, the weary dragon follower had lost his aura of malevolence. Dagon could sense that the power of dragon in his body was gone. It realized that the follower is not a manipulator of Dracospirits, but just an unwilling vessel of their power.
Novalis the Dragon Follower: Sorry, I’ve...I’ve lost control again...
Novalis the Dragon Follower: Ursula...Where are you?
Seeing the Dragon Follower tremble feebly, certain werefishes would like to take the opportunity to retaliate, but they were stopped by Dagon’s incarnation. When the Ethereal Dragon swam to his front and touched him with his slimy limbs, the incarnation shattered into pieces as the power of the Primordial Dragon was transferred into the Dragon Follower.
Novalis the Dragon Follower: I won’t thank you for this.
The deep ones saw off the Dragon Follower. Dagon had not let him go not out of mercy, but rather because it simply preferred to see alive beings over dead ones. This was also the reason it protected the deep ones. The Dragon Maiden far away could comprehend Dagon’s will. Dagon knew from the Dracospirits that she was doing everything to protect the lives of all...
The Great Cthulhu: ‘Come, my friend. It’s time for you to regain your power.’
‘The deceased had existed so long, as long as the world.’^ The Elder Gods left their bodies in the realm of men after creating the world while their spirits flew into an ethereal space. Apart from their bodies, they also left a little bit of Ancestral Elements in the realm. Dagon, the partial spirit of one of the Elder Gods, was gathering power under the ruins. It uses its incarnation
‘When the world expands, the Primordial Dragons share the power...’^ In the past, Dagon had used the ocean as a cradle to nurture different creatures so that they could step into the expanding world. However, ravaged by Gods and Demons, the realm of men was no longer expansive. After new lands came out from the eternal flame and chaos were blown away by the roaring wind, it was time for Dagon to work. Therefore, it has to begin its preparation—
That night, the sea whirled and created a vertical channel directly to the bottom of the sea. It was just like a big hole which allowed the lights of stars fell on R’lyeh. When a bolt of lightning was shot into the sea, the sound of thunder and the roar of the dragon echoed with each other.
Carrying the whole R’lyeh on his back, Dagon awakened in the depths of the sea.
