Odin : It’s already the seventh day. Are you tired, Heimdallr?
Heimdallr: No. I’m not gonna close my eyes even if there’s only one Demon left in this world.
During the war between Gods and Demons, the North was in chaos, but Asgard was peaceful. Heimdallr, who guarded Asgard, looked like a normal soldier, but could, in fact, stay awake for a whole week. While the other soldiers rested at night, he guarded the front line. He intently glared at and listened to his surroundings and carefully looked out for any signs of Demon invasions.
Since Asgard was the North Alliance's headquarters, Demons were always targeting this strategic spot. However, every time they invaded at night, Heimdallr always knew their plans and blew the trumpet to warn all the soldiers. Odin highly valued and appreciated Heimdallr. One night, when their was a cease fire, Odin discussed Asgard's roots and future with Heimdallr...
Odin : Heimdallr, you have an endurance that’s beyond compare. You should leave Asgard and fight the Demons.
Heimdallr: Master Odin, for whom shall I fight for?
Odin : For the North, of course.
Heimdallr: But my soul is deeply rooted in Asgard, I can only see and hear things clear here.
Odin : Will you vow to stay in Asgard before the war ends, even after your you pass away?
Heimdallr: As you wish.
Before the rainstorm, Heimdallr promised to sacrifise his life to gurad Asgard. Afterwards, Odin shared the power of Runes with him and turned him into a restless God.
Heimdallr: I vow to guard Asgard forever. I will defend it from enemies and even sacrifice my life for Asgard.
Heimdallr: I am tireless. The darkness is gone and I now vow to the Runes that I will keep protecting Asgard.
Later, Odin appointed Tyr’s adopted son, Giallar as the Hornist and the messenger of Heimdallr. He was in charge of blowing the triumphant horn to cheer up soldiers and warn soldiers during a crisis...
Since Odin shared the power of Runes with the generals, they all became stronger with a firing war spirit. However, as the war went on, Loki created Fenrir and infused his daughter Hel's soul into it. The Northern Gods were anxious about Loki’s creation.
Although Fenrir was splitted into two and sealed away, it remained a big threat to both Odin and Tyr. Due to both external attacks and internal turmoil, the North Alliance was greatly undermined. Unfortunately, the war had extended to Asgard.
Heimdallr: The Demonic fire has melted the ice. Giallar, blow the trumpet now with all your might! Everyone in the North shall hear it!
Giallar: Yes, my Master!
At dawn, dark clouds covered the sky and fire burned everywhere. Heimdallr waved his axes with fire immediately bursting out, burning down all of the Demonic warships coming to shore. However, the Demonic soldiers now gathered all their forces in Asgard.
Although Heimdallr saw this coming, the Demons had the upper hand. The Demons had enough power to break through the barrier and destroy the heart of the North. When Heimdallr retreated, he heard a familiar voice...
Giallar: Master Heimdallr! Here’s Master Freyr's war ship! And the Heroic Spirits of the North!
Heimdallr: Bravo! Giallar, keep blowing that trumpet! We need more reinforcements!
Freyr: Haha, I’m gonna erase these bishops! You'll all die from my sword!
Heimdallr: ”Was it an illusion? I must get rid of the Demons first!”
Heimdallr: ”Freyr lives up to his reputation, but wait, why do I hear the breath of a dragon...”
The moment Freyr went ashore, the Sword of Victory immediately lit up. All the Demonic soldiers were chopped down with swing sweep it made. The ground was soon covered in black blood. Heimdallr supported with all his strength. Suddenly, the sound of an abnormal Dragon's breath ringed in his ears. In the distance, a red Dragon with a mouthful of sharp teeth hovered above and dashed towards Freyr!
Heimdallr: Freyr! Watch out!
Streching out its claws, the red Dragon swiftly took Freyr's sword and flew towards the center of Asgard. Freyr immediately chased after the Dragon, but he was encircled by Demons. With no intentions of retreating, Freyr was left with no choice but to pick up the nearest sword and continue fighting. Heimdallr, who saw the red Dragon invade the inner city, immediately turned to pursue the Dragon...
Asgard, the habitation of Vanir, was the most prosperous district of the North. Surrounded by ice, the structure of its inland resembles that of a fortress, with high towers standing tall and frost covering the earth.
Following closely behind the Emperor Dragon of Fiery Wings, Heimdallr intended to chopped off its claws to take back the Sword of Victory, then attacked it. Unexpectedly, the Dragon flapped its wing in an attempt to retreat. Heimdallr threw his axes at once and left a fire scar on the dragon’s skin, which immediately caught its attention…
Heimdallr: How pathetic you are, Demon! Your body is rotting and your breath is mourning!
Heimdallr waved his fire axes towards the Dragon, who immediately roared in pain and dashed towards Heimdallr, but Heimdallr successfully dodged the dragon's attack. The Dragon kept chasing him. Therefore, Heimdallr induced it towards the area with the most skyscrapers in Asgard, which was also the area with the most complicated topography.
The Emperor Dragon of Fiery's huge body and wings crashed into the walls and towers of the inner city. Looming by sands and dusts, the city suddenly changed. As the Dragon struggled to fly through the city, Heimdallr seized this opportunity to break down a tower that immediately fell on the Dragon. The Dragon, busy with lifting the fallen tower, dropped the Sword of Victory and escaped…
Heimdallr: The Sword of Victory is dull...
Heimdallr: The Dragon just left and a new wave of Demon soldiers are approaching. It seems like Freyr has been defeated…
Heimdallr: I summon you with this sword, Freyr. Now our only solution is protect to Asgard with ice and secure the North's victory.
Heimdallr: If you agree, help me as much as you can.
The first vow Heimdallr made was to guard Asgard and the second vow is to guard Asgard with his life. His summon seemed to yield response. Upon feeling his cold Sword, a chill ran down his whole body, knowing that the power was flowing through him. Frost spread out from the Sword and froze all the incoming Demons...
When the earth turned into a glacier, the Sword of Victory and the flames on Heimdallr's axes all gradually disappeared.
Heimdallr: Rest in peace...Freyr…
Most of the Demon soldiers were frozen to death and the war ceased. After the war, Odin was sealed in Enochian tower. Therefore, Heimdallr lost the restless God power and Giallar’s trumpet didn’t sound since then. The two of them, looking exhausted, slept deeply since then...
A few years after the war between Gods and Demons, Asgard had lost its prosperity and gradually turned into ruins, which became a treasure hunting site for robbers. Heimdallr stayed asleep and would only wake up whenever he sensed evil nearby. One day, a group of notorious robbers robbed Asgard and completely destroyed the city.
Heimdallr: No outsiders are allowed in Asgard!
Heimdallr was heart-broken. He was frustrated that he could not do anything about the situation. After expelling the robbers , he protected Asgard with the only way he knew how—with the remaining God power he had, he steamed the sea with fire and enveloped Asgard with fog...
Within the thick fog, the only figure that could be seen is Heimdallr's. After he calmed down, Heimdallr took care of all the mess left behind by the robberies. It no longer mattered whether he had the restless God power anymore, since the North's new era, Asgard was no longer the North's base and became only a legend.
Heimdallr: Freyr, you left behind your armor and your sacrifice will be forgotten...
Heimdallr: Can what's left only attract robbers?
Heimdallr: Is there any future for the North as we hoped? Who can witness it now...
Heimdallr was frustrated. As he was deep in thought, Freyr’s armour suddenly broke into pieces and dropped to the ground. The booming stroke Heimdallr...
Heimdallr: A scattered armour is still an armour, if only someone is willing to put them back together…
He put down the armour and woke up Giallar. For the first time after the war between Gods and Demons, the two of them plucked up...
Heimdallr: Giallar, this is a task that concerns the North's future.
Heimdallr: Please set off right away go search for the heirs of Vanir and Aesir, and guard them until they reach Asgard so that the will of the Gods can be passed on!
Giallar packed his trumpet and other belongings. He then became a hunter. Heimdallr saw him off. Giallar left his country and headed towards Valhalla...
