The knight grand cross and wizard, leading a small team, arrived before the castle.
Knight Grand Cross: Warriors, get ready. Stay alert!
Seeing the prepared soldiers, the knight grand cross and the wizard looked at one another before nodding. They pushed opened the castle doors and entered. Upon stepping in, a powerful stench of blood inundated their noses and the soldiers immediately felt a chill flowing down their spines. Yet, their chivalric senses reminded them not to be afraid.
Courageous, they stepped into the gloomy alley; the suits of armor on the side seemed to be staring at them, further heightening the atmosphere of dread. Suddenly, a voice rung out from the depths of the alleyway...
???: Honorable Knight Grand Cross, what has brought you here?
Knight Grand Cross: Honorable Elizabeth?
From the depths of the alley, an entrancing figure emerged with an alluring face, stunning figure, and enticing smile. Yet, at this time, no one appreciated her beauty, for she was dripping with crimson...
Knight Grand Cross: Honorable Elizabeth, what are you covered in...?
Elizabeth the Nobel: You see this, huh? Is it so beautiful?
Elizabeth the Nobel: Blood! I want more!
Elizabeth picked up the longsword from the floor. Step by step, she edged towards the downed knight grand cross leaning against the wall. Just as Elizabeth lifted the sword to stab the knight grand cross, a soldier leaped over and shielded the knight with his body. Although the sword pierced his body entirely, the soldier gripped the blade with both hands. No matter how Elizabeth struggled, she could not pull out the sword.
Soldier: Cough! Cough! Commander, go...
Seeing the soldier’s courage, the knight grand cross nodded gravely. He picked up the unconscious wizard and together, they limped towards the castle door. He understood that this was the only path for survival. Furthermore, he would have to tell the grand duke of everything that has happened here. Yet, Elizabeth would not let them leave so easily. Several soldiers leaped at Elizabeth simultaneously, hoping to buy them more time...
Team of Soldiers: You are not going to get what you want!
The knight grand cross had already left the castle doors. From within his armor, he pulled out a magical scroll. With it in hand, the knight grand cross and wizard disappeared with a white flash. Elizabeth smacked her forehead in frustration.
She looked down to see a deceased soldier who clung to her leg even in death; regardless of how she kicked, the soldier stayed attached. Elizabeth, therefore, patted the soldier’s body, instantly transforming it into a puddle of blood before returning to the depths of his castle...
Elizabeth the Nobel: Chivalry, huh? How admirable!
Girls kept going missing in a village. Running out of options, the villagers sought out a famous investigator, Jack, to find the missing girls. Jack and Ed followed the clues given by the villagers, and followed them to Elizabeth’s castle. Jack could smell a powerful scent the moment they arrived.
Ed: Buddy, is this the place?
Jack: Can’t you smell the rich aroma of blood?
Ed: I don’t know what they want us to investigate though! Those people are likely all dead!
Jack: Stop complaining. This is work!
Ed: Well, after I finish this “work”, can I slaughter everyone in the village?
Jack: Half of them at most; no bargaining! And, you have to wait until I get paid before you do so!
Jack pushed the door open, and were hit with a refreshing scent of blood. Jack slowly walked toward the depths of the castles, while Ed behaved like a curious infant, exploring. Jack entered the dungeons of the castle alone and there, he found girl after girl imprisoned, hiding in the corners of their cells. They looked at Jack; it was as if through their eyes, they were imploring him to save them. Suddenly, a woman walked down the stairs from the other side.
Elizabeth: I don’t think I invited you into my castle.
Jack: My fair lady, I was merely entrusted with bringing these girls out.
Elizabeth: Really, huh? But do you really think I will let them go?
All of a sudden, Elizabeth fired a sphere of blood at Jack, but a figure suddenly stepped in front of Jack, absorbing the attack...
Ed: Ow! That hurt!
Elizabeth’s hands, entwined with a mist of blood, reached at Jack. Yet, he suddenly grabbed her hands; its iciness proved enticing to Jack. Going with the momentum of the grab, he pulled Elizabeth into his embrace. Her sense of coldness was new to Jack, further attracting him. Yet, Elizabeth did not know how to act. Although she had technically lived for over a century, it was her first time being held by a grown man. She could not help but panic.
Elizabeth : You... what are you doing?
Jack: My fair lady, please tell me your name!
Elizabeth: E... Elizabeth...
Jack: Dear Elizabeth, do you believe in love at first sight?
Elizabeth saw Jack’s infatuated eyes staring at her; her heart was thumping incessantly. Jack slowly leaned. Ed, standing on the side, buried his face in his hands...
Ed: My buddy’s gone insane again!
Looking at the girls in the cell, he gave them what he thought was a compassionate smile.
Ed: Alright, let’s go home!
The moment the cell door opened, all the girls ran.
Ed: Am I really that terrifying? Forget it! Buddy, I am going to go get our payment.
Ed walked down from the castle following the path, leaving the pair, who had been grown unaware of all around them, behind.
Since meeting Jack, Elizabeth found something even more interesting than eternal life — love. She would spend every day in romance with Jack. Days still spent in comfort. Yet, Jack was not a guy interested in settling down. Soon, Jack and Ed began their travelling again. Hence, Elizabeth could only spend every day soaking in her pools of blood...
Besides Jack, the heat from the pools of blood was the only thing that could give any warmth to her ice-cold body. Every day, Elizabeth would play with her glass while sitting in the pool of blood, her eyes staring into nothingness.
She thought about life; after living a century, was eternal life really that important? Especially since meeting Jack, she felt that only spending time with Jack was important. Suddenly, from the side of the blood pool, a large amount of blood coagulated into ‘Jack’...
‘Jack’: Elizabeth, of course eternal life is important!
Elizabeth: But it is so boring. Sometimes, I no longer want this life. Sometimes, I would even want death.
‘Jack’: But from the beginning, what has driven you is not a desire for eternal life, but a fear of death!
Elizabeth: Oh really? I would think that death should fear me!
‘Jack’: Is that right?
Elizabeth: What else could it be? Death and killing is forever by my side. My man is one who would even deal with death as if it were art!
‘Jack’: That is because death is your fear!
‘Jack’: Then, why don’t you experience death.
The blood beside ‘Jack’ coagulated again, but this time, it formed into ‘Elizabeth...’
‘Jack’ and ‘Elizabeth’ formed into a mist of blood that enveloped Elizabeth. Elizabeth struggled painfully; the torment drove her to close her eyes. Suddenly, she could sense the fear in her heart — she feared death.
When she opened her eyes again, the blood surrounding her had dispersed. ‘Jack’ and ‘Elizabeth’ had also vanished. There was also no fresh blood in the pool, as if nothing had emerged from there. Elizabeth looked in the mirror, seeing herself reborn in a completely new way.
Reflection of Elizabeth: ‘You do not possess eternal life because you desired it; rather, you possess it because you fear death!’
Reflection of Elizabeth: ‘When you have exhausted your supply of blood, death shall reappear before your eyes. Reject it with your way!’
Elizabeth: That’s right! This is who I originally was!
From that moment onward, Elizabeth caught even more maidens, with the number ever increasing. Jack did not understand why Elizabeth had changed so, but this incessant slaughter had already violated his bottom line...
Seeing the suffering maidens, Jack sighed from behind Elizabeth. Jack is a Demon with principles; he would kill painlessly before performing art on the corpse. While he liked to kill, he never liked torturing. Because of his restrictions, Ed also cannot torture. Ed was given a choice: either kill instantly, or no killing at all.
Yet, Jack felt that Elizabeth had changed upon returning from that trip. She had become unfamiliar, cruel, and horrifying. She had grown interesting fond of torture, and causing painful death to targets of indiscriminate age. Jack lightly held Elizabeth from behind, and whispered into her ear:
Jack: Enough. Just end their misery!
Elizabeth pulled her hand out of Jack’s grip, and began hanging up a new group of people. Jack looked on at this unfamiliar woman who was supposed to be his beloved. Step by step he pulled back, and in his eyes, the pain was palpable. He gradually disappeared into the air...
When Osiris appeared outside Elizabeth’s castle, he could not help shaking his head at that mixture of pained screams and joyous giggling. As guide to the underworld, he understood that he should not interfere with the affairs of the mortal realm. Yet, he found the act atrocious; thus, he appeared before Elizabeth...
Immortal Judge of Afterlife Osiris: I am the Immortal Judge of the Afterlife. I am here on behalf of the souls who have perished from your torment. Please, stop this.
Elizabeth: Going on about nonsense I don’t understand, huh? Well, die!
Souls of the Deceased: Lord Osirus, please stop that diabolical beast! We don’t want any more people to have to endure such torment!
Jack: Enough, Elizabeth! Remember who you truly are!
Jack had dashed out from behind Elizabeth. Her hand pierced through Jack’s chest, the pain it caused her was seemingly like ripping open her own chest at the same time. She watched as Jack slowly collapsed, her crimson tears ran down her cheeks. Jack brushed her hair with his hands...
Jack: Don’t cry, dear...
Elizabeth: Don’t talk!
Jack: Promise me... Stop... torturing, it... does not match... my art...
Elizabeth: I promise you. Don’t leave me!
Jack’s soul emerged from within his body, which Elizabeth tried to stop to no avail. His soul floated gently towards Osiris; Elizabeth dashed over to Osiris, kneeling in front of him...
Elizabeth: Please! Don’t take him away!
Immortal Judge of Afterlife Osiris: Life and death are fated. Don’t obsess.
With that said, Osirus vanished with Jack’s soul by his side. When Ed returned, all he saw was Elizabeth on her knees; Jack’s corpse rested in her embrace as she muttered...
Elizabeth: Life and death are fated? Really?
The same sentence once again echoed in her ear a century later...
