Galio stayed in the darkness alone. He stood silently, feeling the weak breeze on his face.
Galio the Broad Swordsman: ‘This way...’
Galio marched slowly towards the direction of the breeze. He must focus in order to find his way in the cove.
Galio the Broad Swordsman: ‘Something’s coming...A demonic beast?’
Even though he knew he had become the prey of a demonic creature, Galio did not stop. He had been in the cove for a while and was used to fighting in the dark. All he had to do was to keep his steps light and observe his surroundings carefully —
Galio the Broad Swordsman: ‘Am I going the right way?’
—However, he had lost his aim and he could no longer be as focused as he used to be.^ Once, Galio fell into an ambush due to his arrogance. Accepting the punishment, Galio went to the cove in exile. Before his departure, the captain asked Galio:
Marbas the General of Truth: ‘Galio, if there is no enemy, what shall your sword cut?’
Marbas the General of Truth: ‘If there’s no one leading, then where should you go?’
Marbas the General of Truth: ‘And if there’s no commanding general, who shall you vow your loyalty to?’
Galio had been thinking about the answers to these questions ever since. He stopped suddenly to slammed his fist into a berserk werewolf that had leaped out from his left, which then resulted numerous eyes glowing in the dark.
Galio the Broad Swordsman: If I can see living demonic beasts, I’m on the right path.
Galio the Broad Swordsman: You beasts cannot give me the answer, can you?
Galio had defeated the demonic beasts, but the noise of the battle had attracted a more powerful enemy. An enormous demonic beast was closing in. Galio was waiting for a chance. When a gust of wind swept through the ground, Galio could merely dodge. However, he was knocked down and smashed by a monstrous strength. Galio had no time to worry about his injuries. He immediately stood up again and prepared for the next blow, but soon he found himself exhaustedly parrying the attacks with the armor on his arms.
Corrupt Spiritual Beast: Roaaarrr!
Galio the Broad Swordsman: Darn! He is even stronger than Armstrong!
After a brief skirmish Galio finally managed to comprehend the attack pattern of the beast. When it slashed with its claw, he grabbed its leather and climbed to its back to choke the beast with all of his strength regardless of the pounding by it. After a series of clangs and gasps, Galio finally strangled the beast to death, but he had also fainted due to the severe damage he received.
Minamoto no Yoshitsune: Let’s celebrate my last defeat in this life with my death!
The bloodthirsty demons were bustling. They encircled Galio and the demonic general to watch their duel. Outside the circle, the uncountable demonic legion had conquered the city. People’s screams were covered by the cheers of Demons. Eyes reddened, Galio suppressed the regret for failing to protect the city, raised his sword and dashed to the demonic samurai with a roar of anger.—
Minamoto no Yoshitsune: May my blood spill over the land of Gods.
Goddess of Order - Giemsa: If you had listened to me, it wouldn’t have—
Thunderous Supremacy - Zeus: Your wish had come true.
Galio woke up from his dream. He shook his head, trying to escape from the flashback of his failure. Opening his eyes, he saw Zeus in front of him. The enormous hall was filled with godly soldiers, and the leader of Gods was looking at him on his throne.
Thunderous Supremacy - Zeus: Now, allow me to talk to the warrior who has passed the test in Dark Cove.
Goddess of Order - Giemsa: Humph!
A strong gust of wind came from Galio’s back, as something enormous had left the hall. Galio rose from the stretcher and stood up in the gaze of the soldiers. He bowed in reverence before the leader of Gods.
Thunderous Supremacy - Zeus: Warrior, the mistake you’ve committed is unforgivable,
Thunderous Supremacy - Zeus: but your achievements have still won my respect.
Galio the Broad Swordsman: Your Majesty. May I ask where’s captain—
Thunderous Supremacy - Zeus: She must pay for the invasion of Demons. She is no longer a “God”.
Thunderous Supremacy - Zeus: And you, Galio, has been chosen as the envoy of Astralists.
Thunderous Supremacy - Zeus: You shall receive a stronger power—
Galio the Broad Swordsman: But—
Thunderous Supremacy - Zeus: Listen carefully!
Thunderous Supremacy - Zeus: You have two choices:
Thunderous Supremacy - Zeus: accept the offer, become the Court and redeem yourself; or reject us,
Thunderous Supremacy - Zeus: and I shall take back your godly power and exile you to the realm of men!
For a second, Galio had through about rejecting Zeus’s order, but then he remembered his captain’s words:
Marbas the General of Truth: ‘If there’s no commanding general, who should you vow your loyalty to?’
Galio the Broad Swordsman: I shall vow to victory...
Marbas the General of Truth: ’If there’s no one leading, then where should you go?’
Galio the Broad Swordsman: I shall walk in to the stars.
Marbas the General of Truth: ‘If there is no enemy, what shall your sword cut?’
Galio the Broad Swordsman: My sword shall cut off confusion!
The Gods led by Zeus were retreating from the realm of men. Although the savants had opposed the idea, they agreed to find another way as the Gods sent to the realm had barely achieved anything.
Savant of Spring: It seems that we can only rely on the power of Astralists...
Savant of Pure Jade: But the Zodiac Courts is a chaotic system...
Savant of Spring: I would not disagree with you, but that is why it is not controlled by any Gods.
Savant of Snow: Although Zeus had decided to leave the realm, they are still protecting people—
Savant of Rules: Even though I disregard them, I have to admit it’s a good way to stall.
Goddess of Order - Giemsa: So, is that your final decision?
Goddess of Order - Giemsa: Please make your vow.
The savants walked out of the gates and flew to the levitating hall, where they chanted...
Savant of Pure Jade: We shall witness
Savant of Spring: the lifetime appointment.
Savant of Rules: You shall serve for your whole life,
Savant of Snow: and for eternity.
As Galio listened to the Savant’s decision, he determined that he would protect people forever even though he might lost the support from Gods in the future. He decided to keep the promise he made when he first joined the army.
The Savants shared some of their godly powers with Galio to bestow on him the identity and the strength of the envoy of Gods, so that he could proceed to the Zodiac Courts to accept the challenges of Astralists—
The Astrologer: Come, show me the will of a lion—
Court of Taurus - Armstrong: Let’s do it, my friend!
Court of Taurus - Armstrong: I’m not going to hold back!
The Zodiac Courts were connected in a strange structure. The Astralists watched over the realm of men in the constellations, and the statues and guards would warn the Astralists whenever there was anything wrong.
Court of Sagittarius - Hertz: However, only the Courts would know what catches the Astralists’ attention.
Galio the Broad Swordsman: Then who is the leader of the Courts?
Court of Sagittarius - Hertz: We lead ourselves.
Galio followed Court of Sagittarius to the palace. A statue stood before the gate of it. Court of Sagittarius stopped and gestured Galio to stop before the statue as it spoke in a deep voice.
Statue of God of the Sun: Failure is the key to success. Build the road to the Zodiac Courts with glory!
Court of Sagittarius - Hertz: It seemed that the Astralists will not easily accept someone sent by Gods.
Galio the Broad Swordsman: No problem, I knew what they need.
Galio returned to the cove, where the corpse of the demonic lion remained. He cut down the leather of the lion to make his own cape to remember the fight. Since then, the emblem of Leo appeared on the gate of Galio’s court. He threw himself eagerly into battles to stop Demons from invading the realm of men...
