Mahonin was the cleverest among her siblings. Being the heir to the throne was her wish from childhood. But then as she grew older, she realized that despite outstanding calibre, women would never be considered as an heir.
In order to snatch the crown, Mahonin had rooted out all of her brothers. Just as the throne was right in front of her eyes, the adjacent country Sarmatia marched to invade her land. Soldiers, guards were all out for defense, but enemies had already arrived at the gate, well poised for the invasion. Mahonin’s country, for the time being, was facing a bitter struggle.
The national army was retreating in defeat. Knowing that the country would fall very soon, the king ordered maidservants to escort Mahonin to leave.
Mahonin: No! Our army will not lose the battle!
Mahonin: “Just a step further...one more step then I’ll be the queen!”
Maidservant: Princess, please come with me. We have to run!
The maidservant brought her to a wall and pressed a button. Then, a hidden passage was revealed slowly.
Maidservant: Princess, this way…
Before the words were finished, she was killed by Mahonin with a hard object. Then, Mahonin changed into the servant clothing and disfigured the face of that maidservant to wipe out the evidence. Heading back to the castle, she found her father and mother lying in a pool of blood. This tragedy did not bring her any tears, because “Mahonin” was dead already.
The general of the enemy force walked to the corpses with a cold stare and commanded:
General: Listen! We’ve conquered this land. Prepare to take over the place and everything else.
Then general approached Mahonin, drawing his sword to point at her neck.
General: Are you a servant?
Mahonin: Yes, general.
General: Humph, seems you’re not as dumb as them. Follow me.
Mahonin: Thank you, general.
She had no choice but to kneel down, bowing her thanks to the enemy. Even though she was not willing to, she had to conceal her rage. Deep inside Mahonin’s heart, revenge spirit was blazing.
In order to revenge, Mahonin killed her maidservant, disguised as a maid called “Maggie” and got into Sarmatia, waiting for a chance to approach the royal family.
Maidservant: Maggie! Take a bucket to water the flowers over there!
Mahonin: Okay. I’m going.
Halfway to the garden, she saw a crimson figure dancing around the flowerbed. That dancer was the princess of Sarmatia——Medea! Her moves were graceful, just a little bit rusty. Medea took a leap and did a few front flips. But just when her toes touched the floor, she waddled and stumbled.
Medea: Dang it! Why am I still not good enough?
Mahonin: “What a shame. It’s just a simple dance. Well, anyways.”
Since then, Mahonin had been wandering around the garden intentionally, waiting for Medea’s visit. Whenever Mahonin saw her, she would dance and show her skills in front of Medea, especially the steps that she was unable to do so. Then, an applause sounded from behind; and that was the moment Mahonin knew her plan was about to succeed…
Medea: Teach me the dance you just did!
Mahonin: As you wish, your highness.
Under her instructions, Medea was getting better and better; and the relationship between them also became much more intimate. Apart from improvement on dancing, Medea began to study magic again, which had aroused the curiosity of the Queen Circe.
Circe: Why are you interested in magic again all of a sudden? Didn’t you decide to quit?
Medea: I did, because the dance was getting on my nerves. But later on a friend of mine encouraged me to pick it up again, and I agreed with her.
Circe: A friend? Who is it?
Medea told the whole story of Mahonin to Circe. Soon, Mahonin was summoned. From conversations, Circe knew that Mahonin was a clever person, so she let her be Medea’s maidservant. Since then, Mahonin had been staying with Medea, and began to come into contact with other royal members...
Since Mahonin had become Medea’s maidservant, their bonding had been advancing by leaps and bounds as if biological sisters. One day, Medea looked worried, standing in front of the window alone with deep sighs.
Medea: Maggie, do you have someone you like?
Mahonin: Yes I have. Princess, do you mean...
Medea: Yes. But I don’t know what he feels about me. And I don’t know what to do.
Mahonin: Who is he? I can’t help you unless you give me the details.
Medea: He is Jason.
Mahonin: Oh! The warrior? He’s good looking surely.
When Medea wanted to continue, the door was barged open. Her elder brother rushed in to ask Mahonin for help.
Prince: Maggie, good to see you here! I need your advice!
Medea: Brother, how can you do this? I’m in the conversation with Maggie!
Prince: With the enemy’s rocklike defense, how can our army break through?
Mahonin: Hm...First you need a commando to strike from the middle.
Mahonin: When the enemies let their guard down, you attacked from both sides with two troops. Then, they’ll be crushed.
Prince: Maggie! If you were a man, you’d be my best right hand.
After getting the answer, the prince left in a rush again, probably in a hurry to report to the king. Then, Medea brought the topic of Jason back on track immediately. While Mahonin was listening, she got the whole picture that Medea had almost fallen for Jason.
As he would be the best puppet to facilitate the revenge plan of Mahonin, she kept inciting Medea to pursue her love, and even taught her how to win Jason’s heart. Besides, the king had given much praise for the prince’s military tactic. As the prince told him the truth, the king began to see merit in Mahonin.
Since then, the king had begun to ask for her opinions on both political and military affairs. Mahonin, with her merit in solving the king’s troubles, had won his favor successfully.
Medea: Father is unreasonable! Jason won the contest, but he still said no to our marriage, and even threw Jason into the prison.
Medea: Do one’s status and power really matter?
Medea, the princess of Sarmatia, had fallen in love with a warrior named Jason. She knew best that her father would never let her daughter marry a nobody. Therefore, Mahonin proposed a fighting contest for her marriage, and let Jason get an official ticket to marry the princess. However, despite the victory, the king, from first to last, never accepted Jason. Worse still, he was put into jail.
Medea: This is outrageous! I have to reason with father!
Mahonin: Calm down, princess. You and the king are beclouded by anger right now.
Mahonin: Acting out of blind impulse can’t save Jason, but also put him into greater danger!
Medea: Then what can I do! I want to save him! I can do anything for him!...Right. Maggie, please talk this out for me to my father!
Mahonin: But I’m just a servant...It doesn’t seem appropriate…
Medea: You’re more than that. My father trusts you. So your words should carry weight to him, please!
King: Maggie, why are you here?...Medea sent you, didn’t she?
Mahonin: Right, your majesty. I feel sorry for Medea, but I do agree that she and Jason are not supposed to marry.
Mahonin: Frankly, I’ve been serving the princess and I met Jason a couple of times. He showed no respect to me, and even tried to touch me…
Mahonin: Jason is not a warrior, but a rat coveting authority. This is what he approached the princess for!
King: Really! Then I’ve made the right choice of not letting this dirty bloodline taint the pureness of the royal family!
King: Lock him up and put the princess grounded!
After making up the truth, Mahonin went back and lied to Medea that the king refused to listen no matter what she said. She faked a guilt-ridden face to apologize.
Medea: I knew that stubborn old man won’t be listening...It’s not your fault. Then what am I supposed to do?
Mahonin: Although your majesty has made up his mind, I still have a way. However, if you decided to do this, there would be no turning back.
Medea: Tell me! I’ll sacrifice everything for him.
Looking at her determined eyes, Mahonin was getting more and more excited. Her revenge plan would soon be accomplished. This country, which had once stolen her throne, was taking the road to its doom…
