Since the retirement of the previous lord, the Gods had led a chaotic life for quite some time; the Savants of Divinity were the only ones maintaining heaven’s order. At the same time, Demons were threatening the Gods. They gradually grew powerful as they absorbed the power left in the realm by the Elder Gods.
Besides seizing land from Humans, the Demons even coveted after heaven itself! To protect themselves, the Gods selected Zeus to be their leader, and depended on him.
When Zeus became the lord of all Gods, he sent his brothers and offsprings to the realm of Humans, in hopes of defeating the Demons and collecting elemental power in the realm at the same time.
Due to the Gods’ interruption, Demons found it more difficult to invade Humans’ land. The descended Gods were able to suppress the Demons’ plans, but they also disturbed the realm’s order. Humans began to fight among each other for their beliefs in different Gods, prompting unnecessary conflicts in the realm.
Thetis the Savant of Rules: As long as Zeus is in power, conflicts in the realm will never end.
Thetis the Savant of Rules: We cannot let chaos run amok in the realm, but we also cannot directly confront Zeus, who is now the lord of all Gods.
Thetis the Savant of Rules: Judging him is not allowed in the rules — rules are absolute!
Thetis the Savant of Rules: If rules have to be broken to save the realm, I hope I will be the only one blamed for it.
In the Gods’ rules, it is stated that no God is allowed to create a double of themselves as to avoid upsetting the balance of power between Gods, and within oneself. However, Thetis tampered with the rule, in the name of protecting “rule” itself —
Thetis the Savant of Rules: My flesh shall be your body; my bones shall be your soul; and my blood shall be your life.
Thetis the Savant of Rules: Rules shall be your maxim; and Achilles shall be your name. Answer my summon. Arrive to this world!
Thetis set up a magic circle, and conjured her godly power. As if manifesting her double, she created a child with her flesh and blood. She hoped that he could save Humans by ending the realm’s chaos with accordance to rules, and correct Zeus’ mistake along the way.
Thetis the Savant of Rules: When the wars are over, you shall serve as my sharpened spear, ruling all living creatures with law!
To settle the conflicts in the realm of Humans, Thetis did not hesitate to tamper with rules directly, and created Achilles with her godly power. She selected a chancellor’s home for Achilles to be born into, so that he could experience legal affairs from a young age, and become familiarized with laws.
Blessed by Thetis’ godly power, Achilles hardly had any difficulties in his study. No matter whether it was thousands of legal statements or judicial proceeding cases, Achilles managed to memorize every single one of them. He always learned faster and better than other people. If children were not forbidden to handle stately affairs, his father would have long hired his own son! Achilles’ talents boosted his ego, and he gradually grew arrogant.
According to the laws of the country, all men have to serve in the military for three years upon reaching adulthood. Achilles never had any major hindrances while growing up. Since his body was created with godly power, when he was conscripted into the military, he was able to endure intensive training with ease. He even requested the trainer to challenge him more!
Achilles: They were only warm-up exercises, weren’t they? Don’t you have anything more difficult?
Seeing Achilles’ condescending attitude, the trainer arranged him to train with the army’s elites, hopefully teaching him a lesson or two. However, to the trainer’s surprise, Achilles not only caught up with the training regime, his performance even topped the class. When Achilles’ military service ended, all the trainers wanted him to stay in the army by offering him with a high military rank.
Achilles: Humph. My skills are equivalent to a squad of elites. Of course they want me in the army.
Achilles’ Father: But you’re talented in practicing law, too! You shouldn’t just squander this talent.
Achilles: The laws are all the same, but the battlefields change every second! It’s much more entertaining!
What everyone had overlooked about Achilles was that despite being born into a civil official family, he was actually drawn to the thrill of war. This was also out of Thetis’ expectation, and the biggest mistake in her plan.
Thetis could only accept the fact that Achilles had chosen to become a soldier. After all, Gods could not arbitrarily intervene with the affairs of the realm of Humans; creating Achilles was already on the limit of interference with regards to the law.^ ^ Nevertheless, Thetis was worried that there might be unexpected happenings coming her way. To avoid such interludes in her plan, Thetis frequently checked on Achilles.
Achilles’ extraordinary valor and fighting abilities granted him the chance to succeed the general’s position faster than anyone could have ever imagined.^ ^ When it was the first time for Achilles to lead the army, he was clouded by arrogance, and did not take his enemies seriously —
Achilles: I’ll take care of the leaders. You guys finish the useless trash here.
With that said, Achilles charged into the sea of soldiers. The enemies had no intentions of stopping him and instead, moved aside in fear and created a road which enabled Achilles to dash straight into the center of their camp, where their leader was located.
Achilles: Humph. What a bunch of chickens!
Witnessing the enemy soldiers’ fearful expressions, Achilles recalled how his soldiers looked at him the same way, prompting him to think that the enemies were weak. This prideful arrogance had led him straight into the enemies’ trap.
Just as Achilles was about to launch an attack at the enemies’ leader, three rows of shielded soldiers dashed between them, and a rain of arrows fell down upon Achilles! The enemy leader had long prepared this arrow trap, awaiting Achilles’ arrival.
Achilles: Darn! Phalanx! Protect the front row of soldiers!
Thetis the Savant of Rules: ‘Son, be careful!’
Merciless arrows plummeted down from the air. Just as one was about to hit Achilles’ back, Thetis hurriedly blocked it with her godly power. Eventually, with the help of Thetis, Achilles easily decapitated the enemy leader, and earned his first victory as a general.
Thetis was overly focused on Achilles’ wars. She stealthily helped him win numerous wars, one after another; he became known as the invincible warlord. However, her actions gradually attracted another God’s attention —
Savant of Snow: Savant of Rules, have you been focusing a lot on that Human hero recently?
Savant of Snow: I can see that your power has declined. Could it be linked with the hero you are watching?
Thetis the Savant of Rules: Savant of Snow! I clearly know that we cannot arbitrarily intervene with the affairs of the realm of Humans.
Savant of Snow: Relax. I am not saying that you have violated any rules. My question was not meant to be offensive.
Thetis could not let the other Gods know that Achilles was actually her son. To avoid being suspected, Thetis could only leave Achilles for a while, letting him fight to his heart’s desires.
Thetis the Savant of Rules: ‘Hm? Where is my son? Why can’t I sense his presence?’
Achilles was created with Thetis’ bone, flesh and power. Although she could not watch him all the time, she could sense his whereabouts through the connection of their power.^ ^ Thetis tried to sense Achilles, but his power was so weak that it was slowly disappearing. Only death could weaken his power like this — worrying that her son might be in danger, Thetis departed from heaven and sought Achilles in person.
What came to her eyes was worse than what Thetis had expected. If Achilles had died, Thetis would just give up on correcting Zeus’ mistakes and refrain from handling affairs in the realm of Humans anymore. However, Achilles turned into a Demon!^ ^ After Achilles died, he was revived by an unknown source of godly power, but his hatred toward Gods and all the resentment from his countless battles demonized him.
Thetis the Savant of Rules: He is my mistake, my wrongdoing from my decision to break the rules. Any consequences shall be mine to bear!
Thetis had to stop Achilles from senseless killing, and had to drive away the demonic power from within his body. Shield in hand, she stood in front of Achilles, directly confronting the deranged Human hero —
Thetis the Savant of Rules: This is not the right path for you!
Thetis the Savant of Rules: I have to rectify my mistake!
Thetis the Savant of Rules: Rejoin my body!
Thetis and Achilles’ bodies merged into one, their souls forever trapped in their unified body, and could no longer separate. Achilles’ hatred toward Gods and his strong will to kill significantly affected Thetis. Her rightful heart was twisted, and her persistence of rules proliferated — to lead the world back onto the right track, she must first destroy all.
This way of thinking transformed Thetis into a combative Goddess. She controlled Achilles and fought on various battlefields, single-handedly defeated myriads of armies of both Gods and Demons. With her overwhelmingly powerful force, Thetis dealt her “justice” in the realm of Humans.
