As the fragrance of food awakened Honda from a coma, he abruptly sat up straight. Yet he moved too fast and accidentally pulled the wounds that gave him excruciating pain. He only had the strength to check on himself after the pain had worn off. Much to his surprise, all his wounds had been treated.
Honda: “Someone saved me…”
Just then, footsteps came, followed by a woman walking into the room with a pot of soup in her hands. She showed a radiant smile when she found that Honda was awake.
Woman: Great! You’re finally awake!
Under the afternoon sunlight, the woman’s smile was as warm as a torch on a biting winter’s night and reignited Honda’s heart which had been frozen for years. With his blood rushing through his body and his heart thudding loudly, Honda simply couldn’t take his eyes off the woman’s face.
At that moment, Honda didn’t know that feeling was called “falling in love”. Having no idea that his heart had been stolen by the smile of this woman before him, he put his hand over his pulsating chest in a slight panic with a hint of bewilderment on his masculine face.
Honda: “What is wrong with me? Is it because of the injury… No, I don’t feel anything strange other than the little pain around the wounds…”
Seeing the stunned Honda, the woman wore a worried frown. She then put down the pot, walked to the bed and bent towards him. Startled by her approach, Honda felt a hot blush come to his cheeks.
Woman: What’s wrong? Not feeling well?
Honda: No-no, I’m fine!
Honda: “What am I doing?! Stop embarrassing yourself!”
Honda: Thank you for saving me. I’m Honda Tadakatsu, may I know your name?
Mori: Um… Mori, my name is Mori.
In fact, Mori didn’t have a name. She never needed one as she was an elf born of the forest. However, she named herself so as to communicate with this man in front of her. Mori had avoided any interaction with humans all along because she had a perception that humans were all scary and devious creatures.
Even Mori didn’t know why she saved Honda. Maybe it was the suffering look on his face when he was having a nightmare that aroused her compassion, or perhaps it was the first moment she laid eyes on him that sent ripples to her quiet heart…
