Mag’s father asked her to hide in the wardrobe. Through the gap, she saw him rushing out of the house with a weapon in his hand. Though she could not see what was happening outside, she could still feel the fire elements flowing out there in the air - the Demons are engulfing the whole village with flames. ‘Can I be saved just by hiding?’ Young Mag could not help to ask herself, for she had overheard the adults talking about the Demons’ deeds before...
Abyss Gnome: Sir! She’s in there!
Nightfall Savant: Good.
Mag heard the noise outside. Then she grabbed for a piece of porcelain beside her. Shadows of men approached the closet and stopped before it.
Suddenly, the closet was fogged up with dark purple vapour. Mag was so terrified that she threw herself out from it immediately, but felt faint right after she had breathed in the vapour. Before losing consciousness, she heard the Demons talking-
Nightfall Savant: Take her back carefully. Don’t break the specimen for my experiment.
Mag had been in a coma, and did not wake up from her snug dream until a glaring flare shone into her eyes. She was trapped inside a glowing rock, soaking in some strange gunk, and could not straighten out. It seemed that somebody outside was shaking the rock. As she was tossed back and forth, she started to realise the change of her body. Something has grown out of her back and bottom-
Just then, the rock begun to crack and Mag fell into a blinding, dazzling white glare.
???: Retreat... don’t... fight...
Mag was held tight, and gradually recovered her eyesight as she was lying in a pair of strong, muscular arms.
Nightfall Savant: What? I thought the Court of Taurus is the strongest among the Zodiacs.
Nightfall Savant: I didn’t expect you being such a loser.
A flying dragon, surrounded by purple light, was breathing out blasts of pneuma and the armored warrior resisted with flame, while protecting Mag in his arms.
Enveloped in purple flame, the warrior held Mag close to him. High up in the air, a Demon who seemed to be the leader was sitting on a huge Melog, with a dark dragon fluttering and flapping around to protect him.
Nightfall Savant: But then,
Nightfall Savant: with this precious chance to test my products on Court of Taurus,
Nightfall Savant: I should be ashamed for putting you to too much trouble!
A dark dragon dived down from the air, breathing out purple flare at the warrior-
Nightfall Savant: Let the child be my gift to you on our first meeting!
Nightfall Savant: Defeat this duplicate, then flee back your Court!
Armstrong the City Taker: Bastards!
Mag: ...It is you who released me?
Armstrong the City Taker: Stay behind me!
Mag finally could take a good look at her own body. Not only did she have wings and tail, but her hands and feet were deformed and even her skin turned red...
‘Where am I? How’s my mom and dad?’ Mag’s head was so muggy, so clotted. She staggered along, with her weary limbs so fatigued that she had to crawl forward, but could not help whizzing hard after walking just a few steps.
Pholus: Sir, everything has been burnt...
Armstrong the City Taker: Looks like we can only retreat...
Mag glanced around with alertness. Warriors were rummaging through rubble and bricks. Then the warrior who protected her just now walked near her and she tensely gazed at him-
Armstrong the City Taker: Oh heck!
He hurriedly picked Mag up despite her feeble resistance. A beam of red light suddenly appeared and surrounded them with a gentle warmth that calmed Mag down.
Mag: Thank you...
Mag: Will that man come back and get me?
Armstrong the City Taker: Don’t worry. Take a good rest.
Armstrong the City Taker: We will stay beside you.
Court of Virgo - Persephone: He must have charmingly said this: I’ll stay beside you. Right?
Mag nodded at Persephone, but what the Court of Taurus had said was ‘We’...
Court of Virgo - Persephone: Huh! What that guy has said are all lies. In the end he just abandoned us here!
Mag: It’s not like that...
Mag: ‘It is actually me who is relying on you.’
Court of Virgo - Persephone: Forget him! Let me be your elder sister and take care of you!
Persephone brought Mag to the square, then summoned countless statues forward.
Mag liked the Zodiacs very much, but it was not appropriate for her to intervene in their matters. Her only option was to accompany Persephone so she would not be bored of doing nothing...
Court of Virgo - Persephone: So... what’re we going to do first?
Court of Virgo - Persephone: Oh yes! You’re not yet familiar with flying. Let me train with you!
Court of Virgo - Persephone: Let’s see which of us can destroy all the statues of the Court of Taurus first!
Mag: That might not be a good idea...
Court of Virgo - Persephone: Don’t worry, Hertz will fix them.
Mag: Here goes!
Court of Virgo - Persephone: Mag, one left over here!
As Mag woke up from her afternoon nap, Court of Taurus and Court of Sagittarius were already clearing up the debris of statues. Mag hastily flew beside them.
Mag: Sorry! We went too far...
Court of Taurus - Armstrong: No, I want to thank you instead.
Court of Taurus - Armstrong: Persephone has not yet adapted to this place for long until you come here.
Court of Taurus - Armstrong: She palpably became more cheerful now.
Mag: ‘Actually Persephone knows right and wrong very well,’
Mag: ‘She is playing around with me just to keep me company.’
Court of Taurus - Armstrong: You flew quite well just now.
Court of Taurus - Armstrong: It seems that you have already grown accustomed to flying.
Mag: Court of Taurus, can you bring me with you on your next trip?
Court of Taurus - Armstrong: That’s my duty. You are not obligated to help me.
Mag: But I have to familiarize myself with my own body.
Mag: It cannot be recovered anyways...
Court of Taurus - Armstrong: Battle is not the only way-
Court of Sagittarius - Hertz: I suggest, you try to come and help.
Court of Sagittarius, his face full of rage, was moving the statues to the packsaddle of the robotic pack beast. Mag rushed to lift up the statues. Court of Taurus originally meant to stop her; however to his surprise, Mag had much more strength than he thought. Court of Sagittarius walked towards Armstrong.
Court of Sagittarius - Hertz: Look, she owns a body that is not meant for a calm and relaxing life.
Court of Sagittarius - Hertz: Besides, she is not the one chosen by astralists.
Court of Taurus - Armstrong: I know.
Court of Taurus - Armstrong: Next time, I’ll bring her to the battlefield.
Mag dashed down and jabbed Govindasaur at the shell with her spear, but it merely made a small crack. Govindasaur went berserk. It abruptly turned upon Mag and forced her to retreat into the air. Guards around her raised their shields high, forming an array of shield to halt the advance of the monster.
Warrior: Demi-Dragon, don’t push yourself too far! We just have to buy time!
Magrence the Dragonborn: I said-
Magrence the Dragonborn: Don’t call me Demi-Dragon!
Mag swooped down again, stabbing her spear deep into Govindasaur through the crack on its shell. Govindasaur was blown off by the flare that spouted out from the crack of the shell. It shrieked and struggled painfully, shaking the rocky ground violently. The strong wave sent the guards reeling to and fro. Mag danced joyfully in the air as she kept looking for the weakness on the shell of Govindasaur-
Magrence the Dragonborn: Don’t worry. I am not letting him go near the village!
Magrence the Dragonborn: I won’t let you to destroy my home!
Despite the short period of time of just two years since her return to the human realm, Mag had been acquainted with the villagers in her hometown.
A village was rebuilt on the destroyed land of the hometown. Mag decided to do anything she could to have the villagers accept her, so as to live a new life in the realm of human.
At first, she was mistook for a monster due to her half dragon body. Because of this, she could only live at the skirt of the woodland and made a living by hunting. However, even the gnomes and salamanders disliked her because of her human appearance. They always wanted to drive her back to the village. Later on, she lived together with the ingenuous elves. The kind-hearted Wildwood Elf welcomed her , of course, yet her power of fire elements often unintentionally hurt the elves. Mag would rather stay far away from them.
Even Mag wanted to hate herself, but fortunately before that, children in the village adored her charismatic dragon wings, paying no regard to their parents’ opposing views. Whenever Mag assisted the villagers in driving away beasts, children would cheer for her behind the fence. They were distant to the time of the war between Gods and Demons. Therefore, heroes, gods and demons had been their fantasies. Mag was not heartless enough to get rid of them; nor could she leave them alone as she was uneasy about their safety. And at last she just followed their will...
The children loved to call her “Magrence”, for they thought only this name would be good enough for a hero. From time to time they would snuck to the front of her treehouse, asking her to tell them stories of dragons.
Magrence the Dragonborn: In fact, dragons barely appeared in battlefields.
Magrence the Dragonborn: Instead creatures called “Golems” often flew here and there in the sky...
Yearning for more stories, the excited children were yelling and whining among themselves. Mag then told them about the astralists, and her adventure with the Court of Taurus.
Court of Virgo - Persephone: ‘Instead of knowing your own ability,’
Court of Virgo - Persephone: ‘you should let the people know who you are.’
Mag recalled what the Court of Virgo said to her. At that time she thought Persephone was talking about the astralists and her. Now she understood that she had to work on how to be accepted for who she was. Mag realised the situations in the village through the kids, and she offered help to the people, tackling numerous troubles for them.
In two years’ time, villages had finally started to accept her. She begun to live with them and prepared for the true touchstone in her life...
