In the past, Tuo Ba Yu-Er could not understand why people would always behave cowardly. They never did things in a straightforward manner; and they never stepped forward to fight agaDoneinst the evil. They only stood on the side as bystanders, watching their fellows tortured by the evil-doers; but, they would grumble about their own misfortune.
One day, Yu-Er saw the soldiers taking the boys in the town away. A mother was begging a soldier to give her son back to her. The soldier tried to push her away but she had grabbed on too tightly. Annoyed, he unsheathed his sword in anger. Yu-Er could not stand watching idly by, so she shouted loudly.
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: You bastard! Stop right now!
Soldier: Who are you? How dare you interfere in our business?
Captain Gao: Arrest this insolent girl!
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Humph... so weak! With you knives in hand, you dare only oppress the weak, but when facing the strong, you tremble with fear!
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: I disdain bastards like you!
Captain Gao: Haha! We’re the troops directly under the command of Princess Du Gu; do you really think we're useless?
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: What? You’re not human!
Captain Gao: Die!
Chen Jing-Ciou: Stop! Don’t hurt her!
When Yu-Er first met Chen Jing-Ciou and Syu Siao-Syue, she thought they were in cahoots with the monsters. She did not allow them to help even though her ankle was sprained. Afraid of aggravating her injury, Chen Jing-Ciou and Siao-Syue dared not move her; all they could do was stand to the side, looking uneasily at each other. Yu-Er returned to the camp of her tribe with the help of her tribesmen until the arrival of her brother-in-law Zhang Lie.
From moment onward, Chen Jing-Ciou and Siao-Syue recognized her resolute and unyielding personality. She would always stand up to fight injustice, but would do so recklessly. Zhang Lie always lectured her, scolding her for her obstinacy and impetuosity. However, she did not heed his advice.
Later, she covertly went to the South and sneaked onto the ship of Emperor Yang of Sui, in an attempt to get vengeance for her tribesmen who were killed by the army of Sui. However, her assassination failed, leaving herself embroiled in great danger. Luckily, she finally escaped with the help of Chen Jing-Ciou and her brother-in-law.
Yu-Er originally decided to listen to her brother-in-law and return to her tribe. However, when Zhang Lie requested Chen Jing-Ciou and Syu Siao-Syue help their tribe find the heirloom, Cauldron of Divinity, Yu-Er strongly objected. She did not want to let them, two people of Sui, to take charge of the Ancient Artifact of their tribe. When Zhang Lie was about to admonish her for her obstinacy, Chen Jing-Ciou suggested going and seeking the Cauldron together with Yu-Er.
At that time, Tuo Ba Yu-Er had yet to trust Chen Jing-Ciou. She thought that the kind words he said to her brother-in-law were just to flatter her... But Chen Jing-Ciou had just rescued her from the ship; being headstrong, she was determined to find a way to repay the debt. Therefore, she agreed to “oversee” the pair, and journeyed with them to seek the Ancient Artifact...
Tuo Ba Yu-Er really could not understand why Chen Jing-Ciou and Syu Siao-Syue could tolerate her despite her obstinacy. On the journey, they always compromised, bending to her every whim. Sometimes Yu-Er would feel quite ashamed. But when faced with their meek and mild personality, she could not help shouting at them.
On their way to Island of Xian Mountain, the trio was asked by the queen of Merman Clan to fight the Black Dragon King who had devoured many of her clan. However, the dying Black Dragon King deceived Yu-Er, claiming that Kongtong Medallion could resurrect her deceased relatives.
Despite the previous warning of the queen and the dissuasion of Jing-Ciou and Siao-Syue, Yu-Er insisted upon believing the Black Dragon King’s claims; thus, she took the medallion. This act turned everyone in the Merman Clan old and feeble, on the verge of death. The Black Dragon King mocked Yu-Er for her foolishness, and rejoiced at the tragedy of the Merman Clan.
Frustration slammed Yu-Er's heart, dropping her to her knees. Ignoring the dissuasion of others, she insisted on going back to offer her remorse and apology to the queen of Merman Clan. Under the cold gazes of the mermen, Yu-Er knelt in apology, accepting the queen's condemnation; however, the queen did not accept her apology.
Queen of Merman Clan: If you are truly that guilty, then why don’t you give up your beautiful face!
Although it seemed unreasonable, Yu-Er actually adhered to this demand that the queen had blurted out in anger, slashing open her face with a dagger. To cure Yu-Er, they went to the Island of Xian Mountain to seek help from Xian.
She was rendered immobile by the severe injury; and she even lost her sight because of the pus accumulated in the wound. In that moment, Yu-Er truly could not understand why Jing-Ciou and Siao-Syue were willing to help when they knew this was the consequence of her own actions.
Chen Jing-Ciou: I admired Yu-Er for her kind heart with bravery, frankness and justice.
As if influenced by Yu-Er’s resolution, Jing-Ciou and Siao-Syue insisted upon finding a way to treat her injury; they were even willing to use their own flesh and limbs as ingredients in a tonic to treat her. The Xian were finally moved by their perseverance...
Lunar Xian: I will now inject the pneuma of peach blossoms into your body.
Lunar Xian: Upon the resonance between the Cauldron of Divinity and the power of blossoms, your damaged skin and muscles can recover.
After overcoming the adversity, the trio continued their journey to seek the Ancient Artifact. They rode a giant whale to a faraway place. The sea breeze brought with it wave of saltiness. Kneeling and holding her musical instrument pipa in arms, Tuo Ba Yu-Er pensively tuned it...
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Jing-Ciou, this time... I really don’t know how to thank you and Siao-Syue!
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Even when I’ve lost everything, you still give me warmth and support. Thinking back, I can’t help but feel moved, feel touched...
Chen Jing-Ciou: Yu-Er, if I was injured now, you would do the same, right?
Syu Siao-Syue: Yu-Er! We will always be best friends!
Chen Jing-Ciou: Actually, Siao-Syue is the one who worked the hardest! You should give a big thanks to her.
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Siao-Syue, thank you very much... Even if I died protecting you several times over, it would still not be enough to repay your kindness...
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Let me play a song for you; this way, I can express my deepest gratitude.
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Let this pipa be proof of our friendship — we shall be together forever, never ever part!
Chen Jing-Ciou: Then, let this flute also be proof of our friendship — we shall be together forever, never ever part!
Syu Siao-Syue: Wait! Then what should I use —
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Siao-Syue, you have beautiful white hair... Now the breeze has straggled your hair. How about taking your comb as the proof?
Syu Siao-Syue: Thank you, Yu-Er...
Syu Siao-Syue: Then play the song now; I really want to hear it!
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: OK! I can play it for thousands of times if you want...
Tuo Ba Yu-Er plucked the strings of her pipa; Chen Jing-Ciou played his jade flute; Siao-Syue combed her hair leisurely... Yu-Er always remembered the time when they were together. For her, their friendship became the only thing she clung to, even more important than her life.
The time vortex had dragged the people from ancient China into this realm. The power of the alien realm collided with the elements here, triggering uncontrollable turbulence. To prevent the realm from collapsing, Jiang Ziya temporarily confined them in a magic field. Tuo Ba Yu-Er, Chen Jing-Ciou and Syu Siao-Syue were dragged to this realm by the power, and for the time being, they lived in the magic field.
After they mended the rift of the sky, Tuo Ba Yu-Er and Chen Jing-Ciou had gotten married. They lived a carefree life on Zhongnan Mountains with Siao-Syue in her original form as the Stone of Origin. The pair were known as a perfect hero-couple.
The aged pair came to this realm because of the time vortex. Being rejuvenated, Yu-Er met Siao-Syue and other past companions again. They settled down in the magic field of this realm with the help of the Xian and discussed what they should do next.
Yu Wun Tuo: ...... The five pieces of jade will resonate with us, the reincarnations of Ancient Artifacts, to start the magical stage conjured by Mr. Jiang.
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: That means, ordinary people like me have nothing to do, right?
The Xian set up the magical stage with the help of the power of Ancient Artifacts. The reincarnations of Ancient Artifacts were busy preparing the stage; while Tuo Ba Yu-Er and Chen Jing-Ciou had nothing to do. Luckily, as Wen Zhong had shared his collection of books with her, Yu-Er could spend her time in reading.
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: I am so happy that we have a common language.
Wen Zhong the Mercy Revealer: Though we speak in different dialects, it does not hinder our communication.
Wen Zhong the Mercy Revealer: Learning of another realm is not a common opportunity. I have learnt a lot.
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Don’t mention it, Brother Wen. I am trading superficial knowledge in exchange for your classics of martial arts. I should be thanking you instead!
Wen Zhong the Mercy Revealer: Not at all, not at all...... Huh? Where is Brother Chen?
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: He said he is going to find a Taoist master to ask him about Taoist Techniques. Didn’t you see him?
Wen Zhong the Mercy Revealer: Alright. Sorry for coming to disturb you then. I will leave now.
Tuo Ba Yu-Er immersed herself back in the books after Wen Zhong left. A while later, Chen Jing-Ciou came to her and flicked through two books about Taoist Techniques, then left in a hurry.^ But on the next day, Chen Jing-Ciou disappeared from the field...
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Master Shen! Before Jing-Ciou went missing, he asked you about the Taoist Techniques. Please tell me where he has gone!
Shen Gongbao the Roaring Tenacity: Ms Tuo Ba, why would I know his whereabouts?
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Liar! You must know!
Shen Gongbao the Roaring Tenacity: ...I did tell him how the field is built...and I’ve warned him not to go outside!
Jiang Ziya the Celestial General: Sigh... Why is it you again, brother?!
Tuo Ba Yu-Er and Siao-Syue had been searching in the magic field for days; but they could not find any trace of Chen Jing-Ciou. After a great deal of effort, Yu-Er finally got some clues from the Taoist — Jing-Ciou had been investigating the structure of the magic field; he even asked the Taoist about the way to leave...
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: That self-righteousness guy! He must be doing something big and hiding it from us!
Syu Siao-Syue: Something big?
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Haven’t you noticed it? Jing-Ciou have been busying himself here and there, in the hope of finding out the truth behind this turbulence.
Cauldron of Divinity - Tuo Ba Yu-Er: But he never talked with us about his plan...
Syu Siao-Syue: Jing-Ciou... Is he worried about us?
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Maybe after the Crimson Meteor incident , Jing-Ciou dares not trust so easily.
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: And furthermore, he doesn’t want to implicate those important to him.
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: I think, I can understand him...
Syu Siao-Syue: Yu-Er...
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Don’t put on a long face! Come on! Let’s go outside too!
Disregarding Wen Zhong’s dissuasion of, Tuo Ba Yu-Er nearly left the magic field. Luckily, Jiang Ziya brought back Chen Jing-Ciou in time; so Yu-Er did not make a terrible mistake.
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: ......
Chen Jing-Ciou: ......
Siao-Syue: Yu-Er, actually he —
Chen Jing-Ciou: Siao-Syue, you don’t need to put in a good word for me.
Chen Jing-Ciou: It was my fault for sneaking out alone. I am sorry.
Chen Jing-Ciou: Yu-Er, I —
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Bw —
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Bwahaha!
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: I regained my youthful appearance; did you think I regained my previous personality as well, dear?
Chen Jing-Ciou: Your face just now was so stern it made me afraid I’d riled you again!
Siao-Syue: Great! I have been worrying that you two would start fighting!
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Siao-Syue, you can go take care of the jade business. Don’t worry about us.
Siao-Syue: Okay, Yu-Er. I’ll go now!
Chen Jing-Ciou: Siao-Syue, I can help —
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Dear?
Chen Jing-Ciou: Yes! What’s the matter, my dear? I’ m at your service.
Tuo Ba Yu-Er walked towards Jing-Ciou. She stretched her hand to the side of his neck. Jing-Ciou thought that she was going to hug him.
Chen Jing-Ciou: I’m sorry for worry — AH!
Suddenly, Yu-Er wrenched his ear.
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: It’s awesome to go on an adventure alone, huh? Didn’t bother thinking whether I would be worried, huh?
Chen Jing-Ciou: Yu-Er! Calm down!
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Freeze! I wanna teach you a lesson!
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Since we are in this world because of a time vortex, that probably means I can behead you without killing you, right?
Chen Jing-Ciou: I beg your mercy, my heroine!
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Chen Jing-Ciou! How dare you! Have you forgotten what you said on our wedding night?
Chen Jing-Ciou: How can I forget? One path, one life, never part!
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Then why did you go outside alone? Do you know how worried I was?
Chen Jing-Ciou: Yu-Er, I was just thinking that even if we have no way to return to our world, I can’t let you get trapped in here forever, so I —
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: Do you know how dangerous it was? If any accident happened, what should I —
Before Yu-Er finished, she had started crying. Jing-Ciou could finally hold her in his arms. She punched his chest; but he could not feel the blows.
Chen Jing-Ciou: I am sorry for worrying you, dear.
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: You are not allowed to leave me by myself... you jerk......
Chen Jing-Ciou: No matter what, you are my treasure, the most precious. I will protect you, always.
Tuo Ba Yu-Er: You idiot, I don’t need you to protect me!
Then, the music of pipa started to play. Siao-Syue, who had been peeping at them by the side, responded with her singing. The trio could understand how each other felt without words. Yu-Er and Jing-Ciou looked at each other with a knowing smile. They muttered a spell summoning their musical instruments to them before snapping to Siao-Syue's side. Together, they played the song that represents their friendship.
