Fafnir were created by Elder Gods as a guardian to take care of the realm for them. Another guardian called Cooper was created as well. Yet, Fafnir and Cooper’s respective personalities were polar opposites: Cooper was quiet and tender, but Fafnir was active and direct. Even the knowledge the Elder Gods shared to each of them was different.
Passionately devoted to the Elder Gods, Fafnir deeply loved the realm they had created. She was proud of her mission and hence, earnestly performed her duty. She had once loved all in the realm, but experience gradually altered her heart...
Cooper and Fafnir decided to journey the realm separately. Fafnir, who had always wanted to visit Human cities, traveled to one.
Although it was as prosperous in reality as it was in her imagination, waste and pollution also abounded.
Seeing precious resources wasted and the beautiful realm created by Elder Gods corrupted, Fafnir could not stop her tears.
The citizens disposed mountains of trash at the outskirts of the city, causing irreversible pollution to the forest. Unaware of the pollution, animals continued living in the forest, thus left on the brink of death from either poison or desperate illnesses. Seeing many dying on the ground, Fafnir’s heart ached as if she had been cut.
Fafnir could not bear to see the animals suffer; she could not understand why Humans acted the way they did. Therefore, she decided to leave the cities, and traveled to secluded villages. On her way, she met an injured slime. She treated its wounds and ensured it would be fine, before continuing her journey.
Fafnir eventually arrived at a small village less prosperout than the cities. The villagers merely subsisted on sparse resources. Yet, they were still self-sufficient and nicer to others. The villagers extended a warm welcome to Fafnir, who was a guest from the city. The festivities were headlined by cages of captured slimes taken from the warehouse, among which was the one Fafnir had just saved.
Fafnir: Why have you caught them in cages? Let them go!
Villager: Relax! There are a whole lot of these strange creatures roaming around. And you see? They won’t get hurt even if we punch them!
Villager: Just come and give it a try. You’re gonna love this game!
No matter how Fafnir dissuaded them, the villagers paid no attention to her and instead, they dragged the slimes from their cages. The slimes suffered from numerous kicks and punches, as smiles grew brighter on the villagers’ faces. It was quite some time before they finally stopped, and dispersed. Fafnir hurriedly approached the victims of the “game”. All the slimes lay fallen on the ground, painfully writhing. Fafnir stroked their body tenderly, hoping to soothe their agitation.
The villagers left the scene of violence and continued their celebration elsewhere; Fafnir cared for the slimes that were now left in pain Sorrowful tears yet again dropped, but it was hatred that exuded from her eyes as she looked at the villagers...
Since departing from Cooper, Fafnir had started her journey across the realm. She had once loved all in the realm, and had protected all creation. But along her journey, Fafnir experienced Humans’ selfish behaviors, including those that harmed nature. Questions began to abound within her...
Fafnir: ‘Venerable Elder Gods assigned me the mission to protect and care for the realm; yet, Humans are destroying it in every way...’
Vigorous shaking and a deafening boom reverberated from nearby. Fafnir was left appalled upon arriving at the source of commotion. The treeless land in front of her eyes was a densely forest not long ago! Fafnir glanced around and found some Humans cutting down the trees. Fafnir furiously dashed out to stop them, but they refused to stop and drove her away, admonishing her to mind her own business.
Guard: Begone! Or I’m going to tie you up! Stop pestering us!
Fafnir: Darned rats...! I am going to teach you a lesson!
The gemstone which Fafnir had been carrying with her suddenly radiated golden light. Before she could figure out what happened, Fafnir felt the warmth of the gemstone, as if the gemstone’s power resonated with hers.
The sudden radiance caused all the Humans to cover their eyes; none could see what had happened. As the blinding light dissipated, the scene crippled all those present in fear. Still unaware of what had transpired, Fafnir bellowed at the Humans:
Fafnir: ‘You begone! If I see you destroying forests again, I shall not spare you!’
Guard: A dragon! Run!
The group of people scattered in panic, fearing the potential fate of ending up as food for Fafnir. Later when all the Humans had fled, she went to the stream for water. It was not until she saw her reflection on the stream did she realize that she had turned into a powerful gigantic dragon. Fafnir could not believe it at first, but when she saw the glow of the gemstone on her body, she started to understand the situation...
It was the resonation between the gemstone of Elder Gods’ power and her anger that had given her greater power to protect the realm.
Fafnir had lost all her patience towards Human behavior. Though they too were the creation of the respected Elder Gods, she could not accept humanity’s harming of other creatures for their own self interests. The trigger of the hatred originated from the deforestation Fafnir had witnessed. Her anger had resonated with the gemstone, and she transformed into a gigantic dragon to drive away the Humans.
Since then, Fafnir stayed in the forest and defended it. She had never actually attacked any intruding Humans and instead, merely scared them off by transforming into a dragon. However, Humans did not give up on the forest. No matter how many times Fafnir drove them away, they would revisit from time to time, hoping to cut down the trees. Eventually, to get Fafnir out of their way, they returned with weapons and a platoon of soldiers.
Fafnir was left bewildered by the Humans’ endeavor. She had been unwilling to actually harm them because they were living beings after all. The Fafnir thought maybe one day the Humans would stop attempting to harm this piece of land; but the Humans still deemed her an obstacle, and were determined to eliminate her...
Official: It’s this darned dragon that has always hindered our operations. If we don’t get rid of it, we cannot expand our territory and demonstrate our power to other countries.
Fafnir: Why won’t you quit? Do you know how many lives you have already taken?
Lieutenant: That is the interfering dragon. Men! Do not fear! Clear the way to progress! For our country!
Fafnir’s anger blazed and finally, it erupted...She gathered the light elemental power on her body until a ring of the element formed around her. The ring suddenly expanded, pulverizing the entire platoon upon contact.
Upon seeing this, the Humans farther away from the attack started fleeing in panic. Fafnir, on the other hand, focused her sight on the radiance of the gemstone resonating with her.
Fafnir: ‘The gemstone is resonating with me. Does that mean the Venerable Elder Gods agree I should eradicate Humans?’
Fafnir: ‘This must be it!
Fafnir: Because Humans are incessantly harming this beautiful realm, the Venerable Elder Gods want me to eliminate every single one of them!’
This perception led Fafnir to conclude that Humans were the culprits for the realm’s many disasters. To fulfill her mission, she decided to eliminate all Humans. Only then could she truly protect the realm. Fafnir gathered light elemental power on her fore claws before leaping forward at the escapers. Listening to the helpless cries and pained howls, she felt an unprecedented exhilaration.
Fafnir: I, Fafnir, shall no longer let inferior beings such as yourselves harm this beautiful realm of the Venerable Elder Gods!
At first, Fafnir had tolerated Humans’ harmful behavior towards the realm; but as time passed, she resolved to eradicate all Humans to protect the realm so treasured by the Elder Gods. To attain more power for the mission, she must acquire the other three gemstones in Cooper’s possession. Therefore, she sought Cooper, and hoped that Cooper would collaborate with her to eradicate Humans.
However, to Fafnir’s surprise, Cooper did not agree with her idea; instead, Cooper attempted to stop Fafnir. She murmured a spell to seal the Elder Gods’ power back into the gemstones. Fafnir could not avoid the fate of being sealed within one of the gemstones.
Fafnir and Kukulkan landed on an open ground. In the gemstones, the two witnessed nature’s changes through time. A forest, and hence life, developed on the ground, but they all were then destroyed by Humans at a fell swoop. Anger built up within Fafnir as she watched everything happen, but she could do nothing about it now that she was sealed in a gemstone...
When the ground was entirely deforested, Humans discovered the existence of Fafnir and Kukulkan. As they were in the form of glittering gemstones, the Humans thought they had found rare treasures and presented them to Zeus.
Zeus: You say the Humans located these gemstones during the construction of Enochian Tower? Hm...Their origin is unknown, but the power they are exuding feels familiar...
Fafnir: ‘So it is you who is harming the realm the Venerable Elder Gods created?’
Zeus: Hm? You have a conscious mind?
Fafnir: ‘Hmph! Get your hands off me! Or else I will make you suffer if I am released from this seal someday.’
Zeus: Open your eyes and look! The ones harming the realm is not me, but the inferior and arrogant Humans!
Fafnir: ‘How are you different from those Humans? You are also harming the realm.’
Zeus: The Humans and I have nothing in common. They are harming the realm. I am re-creating it.
Fafnir: ‘Re-creating the realm? What do you mean?’
Zeus: This realm was once beautiful. I am just trying to restore the ravaged land back to its original state.
Fafnir: ‘Interesting. Using destruction for re-creation? The realm has indeed lost its beauty. Maybe re-creating it is the best way to save the realm.’
Fafnir agreed with Zeus’ intention, so she decided to aid him in his task. Zeus placed her and Kukulkan at the gate of heaven to serve as the first layer of protection. He knew that one day the two will be of great use.
