Trapped in Dark Cove, Loki used the hatred in his heart as a medium and projected his thoughts in the sky. The thoughts were shot from Loki's heart like threads, and Loki used these threads to make a doll of himself. Soon, a cloud of evil pneuma accumulated in the cove.
Loki wanted to create himself with it, but that was just a replica of his consciousness, and it could never form its own body. Did I fail? Loki sighed. He drew out his hands, cutting off the threads of thoughts coming out from his chest, so that the end of the threads floated in the sky. However, the cloud of evil pneuma was getting more and more condensed. It was not willing to fade away...
: The surroundings are filled with elements in the cove.
: In order to look for the body they had resided in before their death...
: ...the evil pneuma must find the souls from the elements.
: Sabbatic Goat was created in the mid-air.
: It stumbled to Loki soullessly as it was attracted by the same essence on him.
Sabbatic Goat and Taotie were created by Loki at the same time. The newly-born Taotie was jumping all around. Compared with it, Sabbatic Goat was just like an unintelligent animal. It was a puppet attracted by Loki’s essence, following the god closely. During those days, Loki only spoke to Taotie. He put all his hope of leaving the cove on it. The goat listened to what Loki said, and learned a few words as time passed by. One night, when Loki was about to sleep, he found the Goat leaning on him, speaking to him with a few separated words.
Loki: What do you want more of?
Baphomet: To know... to understand...
Loki, God of Tricksters: Everything in Dark Cove is infinite.
Loki, God of Tricksters: They neither wear out nor grow,
Loki, God of Tricksters: because they are always being reset.
Loki, God of Tricksters: Of course, I can share my knowledge with you.
Loki, God of Tricksters: But you have to leave the cove, that’s the only way to accumulate knowledge.
Sabbatic Goat had learned from Loki the knowledge of his lifetime, but it could not inherit his wisdom. It lived under Loki’s teachings, and its live in the cove reinforced its knowledge. Later, when the Gods ordered Loki to kill Taotie, Loki ordered Sabbatic Goat to leave the cove with Taotie.
Tall Scholar: Something I used to know, but I couldn’t remember what it is called.
It was just a thin piece of iron which was used to assemble a machine. The two scholars questioned each other, but none of them could tell the name of it. They tried to describe it using other objects, but they could find nothing in their mind.
Forgetting the name of things and losing their cognitive abilities were the citizens’ initial symptoms. Not long later, many of them forgot how to eat, how to open the door of their house... These things kept happening in the realm of men, until the arrival of a goddess, who found the culprit.
Urd, Valkyrie of Memory: Demon, I have heard your name long ago.
Urd, Valkyrie of Memory: Baphomet, the Snatcher of Knowledge.
Baphomet the Demonic Goat: Even I myself don’t know my own name.
Urd, Valkyrie of Memory: That’s understandable. I have existed longer than your creator.
A chase started between Sabbatic Goat and the valkyrie. Every time Sabbatic Goat snatched knowledge from humans, the valkyrie would ask the goat to return what it had taken. It would send the information back to Dark Cove before giving it back to those people, and gain knowledge only by remembering. This only caused temporary memory loss for people. Sabbatic Goat’s knowledge and its agile body made it become the only creature which could commute between the cove and the outside.
Baphomet was guarding the border of the cove. It was gathering information of the outside for Loki. It was not only the guardian of Dark Cove, but also the only channel for Loki to communicate with the outside. It constantly told Loki that it did not possess any knowledge; it was just a porter and recorder of knowledge.
The more Sabbatic Goat knew about the world, the more it could not understand. For example, it could not understand why Gods and Demons kept fighting against each other throughout the long history of the realm of men. Its knowledge told it there were a lot more ways to resolve conflicts other than war.
At the same time, the goat could not understand why Loki was trapped in Dark Cove and whether vengeance was really sacred. Sometimes, it would think about some ultimate questions, such as those of life and death. But it would soon stop thinking about it. Then, it would tell itself that these problems should not have existed, they were there because it knew too much.
Baphomet could no longer bear the worries brought by thinking. It had to stop himself thinking with his own consciousness. It hoped its knowledge could be erased, so that it could regain its lost silence.
Loki, God of Tricksters: Just go to meet them.
Baphomet the Demonic Goat: No, I don’t want to learn anything anymore.
Loki, God of Tricksters: See them. After all, they come for you.
After those years, there was nothing that Sabbatic Goat did not know. He could not learn anymore. In order to approach the cove, scholars from the outside tried their very best to study the skills to travel beneath the land. They did all these only to meet Baphomet, but Baphomet evaded them. As a result, those scholars settled down in the Tower of Black Stones. Some of them could not adapt to the environment there, and they fall to sickness. Nevertheless, no one packed to leave. Baphomet had no choice but to take Loki’s advice, and see them at last.
Lilith the Master Alchemist: The demon of wisdom.
Lilith the Master Alchemist: We have travelled a long distance just to see you.
Baphomet the Demonic Goat: The possession of knowledge does not brings you wisdom.
Baphomet the Demonic Goat: If you know I am a demon, why won’t you fear...
Lilith the Master Alchemist: ‘If a man learns the universal principles, he may die without regret.’
Baphomet the Demonic Goat: The universal principles? Haha, how come I would know such thing?
Baphomet the Demonic Goat: But if you want that so bad, I can give you all I know.
Sabbatic Goat shared all its knowledge with the scholars, and asked them to find the answers on their own. Knowledge could never give people answers, and cognition would only bring them worries. However, when the goat returned to Dark Cove, what was in front of Loki was just a cloud of evil pneuma.
