Aria: Find your true self——That’s the test given by the holy grail.
Merlin: ...find my true self?
Even someone as composed as Merlin showed a rare indecision in her eyes.
Aria: Once you make the wrong choice, you may never earn recognition from the holy grail and you may end up living with that apperance forever.
Merlin: What? If I make the choice, doesn’t that mean I can never know where are the Star Stones?
Merlin scanned the figures anxiously, trying to find a clue, yet her attempts proved futile.
Merlin: “Which one is my true self? This is not it. That isn’t either. No, I don’t know… What should I do? Arthur...”
Hugging her knees in agony, Merlin sat on the ground and start reexamining her past. The more she tried to recall her original face, the greater her heart ached.
Merlin: It turned out that I have forgotten my original appearance as it only reminds me of the frustration back in the days and the torture of being mocked by the people around me.
Merlin lifted her head with a sigh. Inadvertently, she caught sight of Arthur’s reflection, which was also Merlin’s face at the moment. It turned out that when she was calling a close friend in her heart, she unconsciously changed her face to hers as well.
Merlin: “Yeah, Arthur… No matter how I look, you always recognize me and give me comfort in times of frustration.”
Gazing at her best friend’s face in the mirror, as though she was cheering herself up, Merlin bounced back and prepared herself for the challenge. Just as she straightened her body, a burst of brilliance flashed through her mind.
Merlin: Wait. Speaking of, Arthur has neven seen my original face. Then why can she always recognize me? Could it be...
Merlin, who found out the secret accidentally, glance around all figures standing in front of her and the corners of her lip soon creased into a smile.
Merlin: I’ve made my choice. That’s the one!
