No walls and no fence; no cuffs and no chains — the depths of the abyss is itself a prison. The evil God has been imprisoned in the dark pit for over a millennium during which he had attempted to escape. However, after a seemingly endless journey spanning months crossing through many boundaries, he had found that on the other side of the abyss was another abyss. The eyes of the evil God looked over the plains and saw himself on the other side. He understood that it was where he had started the journey months before. The true horror of the abyss lay in its repetitiveness and boundlessness.
The dark God could not resign himself to his fate. He pondered the structure of the abyss with an undying determination to leave. He hid in a cave and allowed dark energy to gather. His hands radiated with a grayish hue as he plunged it into his heart, tearing a chunk off his hateful and malicious heart. The nefarious spirit levitated in mid-air as it grew in the godly powers around and formed into a mass. The evil God endowed it with the body of a goat. From this, the Sabbatical Goat was born.
Afterwards, the evil God waved his hand, redistributing the demonic pneuma in the air and torn another piece of greed. He melded it into a string. Various desires emerged from it in the form of silk-like strands which weaved itself into a demonic jewel. The evil God was immediately attracted to it as if he could witness his own desire — seeing his daughter again in the depths of the jewel.
The dark God’s greed has formed into a spirit.
Absorb sufficient elements to form Taotie.
: Taotie slowly came into being.
: The evil God pulled out more greed from within himself to feed it.
The evil God referenced the design of the abyss in his creations. He divided his soul and the abyss mimicked his divisions. As the evil God created Taotie, the abyss would do the same in its realm. The evil God believed that one day, he would be able to saturate the abyss and thus successfully escape the prison the Gods have designed for him.
The birth of the Sabbatical Goat was for the evil God what rain would be for the dehydrated. Its small body could pass through the thin membrane that divided the abyss from the realm of man and thus becoming the evil God’s eyes on the outside, learning about the Gods’ every move. Unfortunately, the first news brought by the Sabbatical Goat was distressing — the Goat told him that the Gods have learnt of Taotie’s existence and ordered for its death. Learning this, the evil God ordered the Sabbatical Goat to return Taotie to its infant state and deliver it into the realm of man.
During the day, Taotie still lived with the child at its temple. When it hungers, it would draw out of the temple towards the trivial Human which tended its garden. Taotie would bite that Human’s leg, and threaten to rip off her limb if it is not given sacrifices.
Child: Nero, are you hungry again?
Child: What is it? Do you want to play?
The Human bent down and crouched in the grass. She picked up Taotie by its chubby body and began laughing as if she had forgotten her place. To punish its servant, Taotie left the mark of consumption on her body.
Child: Hehe! Stop licking me! Haha!
In the night, Holylight fell upon the Gods’ soldiers and brightened a corner of the village, illuminating piles of Human remains. Taotie’s temple was in a corner of the village and conquered by the Gods’ soldiers near nightfall. At that time, Taotie was still rolling around on the grass with the child when they heard the sounds of catapult missiles ramming into the temple. The frightening noises sent the pair running to the child’s home in fear. The adults took the two and hid them inside the stove.
The soldiers of heaven had invaded the village to capture Taotie. Ever since it entered the realm of man, it had initially been a source of power for a clan of elfish Xian. Yet, the clan was few in member and all later perished from the cultivation of dark spells. Since then, none that remained knew of Taotie’s true origins. It was later believed to be a mythological beast that enjoyed great longevity and therefore, was placed into the temple to guard the well being of the villagers.
Gods feared the power of Taotie and sent soldiers into the realm of man for its capture. The villagers had refused the request as they saw Taotie as the historic deity that had protected the village. Thus, they resisted the Gods’ soldiers. With unwillingness in their eyes and no ill intent in their hearts, the soldiers were left with no choice but to swing their swords as ordered when conflict arose.
Taotie and the child had hidden in the stove since nightfall. The floating ashes in the air had hindered their view outside of the home and they could only hear sounds of the ongoing fight. It was not until the Gods utilized their healing Holylight did the child see the corpses of soldiers and villagers alike. Although she could not see the expressions on the soldiers’ faces, she remembered their attire and the image was burnt into her desire for vengeance. At this time, Taotie still had not accumulated enough power. All it could do was clamp its jaws onto the child and escape in the darkened canals as the soldiers rested.
In the dark alley, Taotie’s ability to attack was hindered.
But perhaps if Taotie drew energy from the child, it could struggle past the hardship ahead of it.
Carrying the child in its mouth, Taotie escaped from the Gods’ continued attacks. Like before, Taotie had lightly bitten her arm to remind her that it was time to offer sacrifices to it. Yet, the child was young, and she had unexpectedly not only ignored its needs for food, but also began crying out of hunger. Taotie was forced to catch prey for her, and threatened her that this was like a deal with the devil. If she accepted the gift, she would have to offer her soul to it for all eternity.
Perhaps because the child was so hungry, she obviously did not understand or even hear Taotie’s barking; she simply wolfed down the raw meat. With much reluctance, Taotie had no choice but to carry the child onwards with their trip. They journeyed along where the child’s ancestors had fallen and migrated in hopes of finding the clan’s old appearance. Taotie hoped this would allow the child to restore the elfish Xian’s magic from the days of yore.
As Taotie experienced the hardship in the realm of man, its evil God master also underwent changes in its abyss. With the ascendance and growth of his namesake City in the Abyss, his name grew notorious in the realm of man once again. In the beginning, the evil God had only taken parts of his dark consciousness to create the Sabbatical Goat and Taotie; however, he had allowed his malevolence to autonomously fester and develop after Taotie’s departure.
The abyss of the Gods with its sealed and repetitive space was intended to contain the power of the evil God. However, this actually helped his self-division, as he replicated more and more near-copies of himself. Ordering this army he had created, he built a sky-high castle that blocked out the sun and the moon using copies of his own heads as bricks. As he was unable to leave the abyss, he appointed the Sabbatical Goat as its doorman. For a time, no Gods dared visit until the arrival of Taotie.
After a few years, the child grew into womanhood. Under Taotie’s guidance, she had returned to the home of her ancestors and found the evil texts that her ancestors studied and through this, became an actual elfish Xian. She and Taotie both viewed the Gods as targets of their vengeance and swore to slaughter every last God. Hence, they sought even greater power. They travelled towards the dark abyss to acquire true power from Taotie’s creator.
Taotie approached the Black Stone Tower and prepared to enter the abyss to meet its true master. Yet, when they were still some distance away, Baphomet the Sabbatical Goat was already awaiting them. It stood with its scythe in hands and blocked their progress. Taotie was bemused by Baphomet’s armed stance as it was the one which had previously released Taotie into the world.
Sabbatic Goat: You can finally match me in strength.
Hermit of Noble Authority: We only seek a meeting with the evil God.
Sabbatic Goat: That is none of my business.
Sabbatic Goat: Do not disappoint me.
Sabbatic Goat: Go then. Your creator is trapped here in perpetuity. However...
Sabbatic Goat: Even if you see him, it is quite possible that you will not actually get anything.
Taotie and the elfish Xian reached the City in the Abyss. Eliciting information with temptations and threats alike, they compelled Loki’s whereabouts from a dark elf. They crossed into the dark God’s palace hallway while avoiding the snake overhead and entered the door. Yet, their path was blocked by a handmaiden and a sorceress.
Sorceress: Who dares approach?
Hermit of Noble Authority: Move aside! I must retrieve power for Taotie.
The guards at the side stood uncared; they did not move to expel them and simply allowed the conflict between them to arise. The commotion awoke the evil God from its sleep and he appeared in the dark alley, glancing at Taotie.
Loki, God of Tricksters: No matter how hard you try, you are still not my daughter.
Loki, God of Tricksters: You are only her replacement.
Loki, God of Tricksters: Humans have seven sentiments and six desires.
Loki, God of Tricksters: Yet, you are only born out of my greed. How could you be perfect?
Loki, God of Tricksters: Leave. Go and live with the weak Humans.
With that being said, the evil God turned to return to the inner chambers and his figure vanished in the dark hallway. Taotie and the elfish Xian wanted to follow, but were stopped by the handmaidens.
Handmaiden: The God of the Abyss does not want to be disturbed again.
Handmaiden: You should return quickly to the realm of man.
Hermit of Noble Authority: Each handmaiden of the evil God has their own unique powers.
Hermit of Noble Authority: I must decide upon each individual and defeat them one by one.
Taotie defeated Loki’s handmaidens, but after they caught up to the evil God, he was displeased. Using his immense powers, he expelled them from the abyss with a wave of energy. Taotie, cursed to a life of unfulfilled desires began a long journey of slaughter in the realm of man with the elfish Xian by its side. In a fit of recklessness, it joined the armies led by the aristocrats. On the battlefield, it slaughtered Demons but secretly, it assassinated Gods — both were killed indiscriminately. Humans called it the embodiment of hatred.
Taotie desiderated power with all of its being, but had been abandoned by the evil God. Despite the merciless release of its rage, its power was unable to grow further. Hence, it lacked the strength to challenge the stronger of the Gods. One day, it left the army in silence and none knew of its whereabouts. Some say that Taotie was engaged in a battle with the Noctimetallic Dragon in hopes of gaining the Soul Seed. Others claim that it had merged with the elfish Xian and dispelled its hatred; after releasing its demonic pneuma, it then vanished in the many realms.
